Val Porteous

In her career, Val spent many years overseas working for the Australian Foreign Service and in the last few years before retiring, operated her own business.

Val’s main art interest is in landscape and seascape oil, watercolour and acrylic painting on location. Val has studied art at the Council of Adult Education. Her tutors have been Walter Magilton, Herman Pekel, Lorraine Wigraft, Ev Hales and Malcolm Beattie. She has participated in many workshops with Kasey Sealy in NSW, and Joseph Zbukvic and Amanda Hyatt at the Wiregrass Gallery, Eltham.

Val has sold many paintings in places visited around the world and in Australia. Val has received art awards at the Heidelberg Artists Society and other art shows in Melbourne.
Since retiring, she has travelled with art groups to China headed by Kevin Taylor; Corfu, Greece headed by Warren Curry; and a trip to Alaska through the Canadian Rockies and cruise down the coast to Vancouver . She is a member of the Heidelberg Artists Society and the Doncaster Templestowe Artists Society and a past member of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists, where she joined her friends in plein air painting on weeks away to various places around Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and the Northern Territory.

In an endeavour to preserve the early history of HAS Inc and the role the society has played in the local community of carrying on the traditions of the “Heidelberg School of Painters”, Val has produced an illustrated chronicle of the Heidelberg Artists Society Inc
